Whiskey Sour

The Sour evolved from the practice of adding lime juice to rum rations to prevent scurvy among sailors in the British Navy in the 1700s. As fresh fruit was perishable, the juice would be doctored with rum or gin, or later sometimes whiskey, in order to preserve the juice as well as to ensure the health of the sailors. Adding a dash of egg white makes it a Boston Sour. Make a toast on August 25th, it's National Whiskey Sour Day.


  • 2 oz. blended whiskey
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp. powdered sugar


Fill a shaker with ice, add ingredients, mix and serve up or over ice.
